About Us
Utatlan is a language academy offering both online and in-person classes. The school was founded in 1990 and has successfully taught Spanish to students from all over the world, of all ages and backgrounds. Our “brick and mortar” school is in beautiful Quetzaltenango, Guatemala where the school is registered and teacher training takes place. Our school directors are Guatemalan (Fernando) and British (Jocelyn) and our coordination staff - Francisco, Ana and Kristian - are all Quetzaltenango locals, as are our teaching team. Many of our teachers have been with us for many years and we pride ourselves on offering a high quality of Spanish language instruction, plus the cultural knowledge that accompanies this. Our teachers are all local teachers, who speak Spanish as their first language, and have extensive experience teaching Spanish to foreigners, in-person, and now online.
What does Utatlan mean? Utatlan is one of the last cities of the Maya Quiche empire, and you can still see the remains of the city if you visit Guatemala. Our logo is a Mayan “nahual” or birth symbol, called Nòj, which represents wisdom.
